Because of different manufacture processes, In theory that we divide the pipe in to seamless pipes and welded pipes, the straight seam pipe is one kind of the welded pipes.

Seamless steel pipe is that used steel ingot or solid tube perforation to be made of capillary, then they have three steps to process: hot rolled, cold rolled or cold dial to be manufactured. And at first straight seam pipe is cut into a narrow steel strip by the strip, and then used the mold cold working tube to be wrapped. Lastly used special welding machine to weld a pipe.Because it is straight shape in the weld, we usually called straight seam pipes.

2. Different Application Fields

We should know the different mechanical behavior between straight seam pipe and seamless steel pipes firstly. Straight seam pipe production process is simple and high production efficiency and having lower cost compare with seamless steel tube. However, in the safe part, Seamless steel tube has more advantage contrast with straight seam pipe.Because straight seam steel pipe has the residual stress that caused by uneven cooling. The residual stress is the internal self-equilibrium stress without external force, and all kinds of cross-section of the hot rolled steel have the same residual stress. Under common conditions, the general sectional size of the larger steel have more residual stress. Although the residual stress is balanced by themselves, but the mechanical performance of steel components in the external force also have a litter impact. Like deformation, stability, fatigue and fatigue and other aspects may have adverse effects.

So above information, we can see that they can applied in different fields according to their characteristics.For Straight seam pipe, it is mainly used in water works, petrochemical industry, chemical industry, and power factory, agricultural irrigation, and urban construction. It also can applied in liquid delivery parts, like water supply and drainage. It can applied in gas delivery, like gas, steam and liquefied petroleum gas. For seamless steel pipe, it is widely used in automobiles, motorcycles, gas springs, hydraulic machinery and refrigeration industry.
